Drum’s Not Dead

Released

This thing aches. It’s the kind of ache you get from drinking too much coffee, not enough water, and one slice of toast in the morning. You feel a curious emptiness in the pit of your stomach, running on nothing but too jittery to sleep. Drum’s Not Dead is the sound of Liars harnessing the extremes of crippling anxiety and go-for-broke propulsion, lush with ghostly vocals, barely discernible over drums that clatter and thunder over everything. And despite all of this- or maybe as a reward for pushing through the overwhelming gauntlet of the eleven songs before it- the album closes with “The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack,” a soaring ballad that marries the yin and yang of the moods into something altogether surprising and new. A reminder that these feelings persist alongside each other, always by each other’s side.
