This British trio excels at finding the very specific spot between Blade Runner and Pharoah Sanders, and then stretching out, taking both of their orientation points seriously. This isn’t electronic in the sense of having a machine pulse or feeling, or being inhuman and glitchy. This album maintains a remarkably even mood, like one long saxophone solo (which it sort of is) that stays in the invocation mode that Sanders mastered. It is a compliment when I say this isn’t really a songs album, or a collection of heads and tails in the classic jazz sense. It’s brave and spiritually open music, less worried with references points and very keyed into some real playing and feeling.
