On her debut album, Niecy Blues blends a rich combination of sonic and aesthetic approaches – saying something like ‘lo-fi r&b’ is a reductive disservice, but suggests her creative elegance, aided at points by fine guest turns. From the opening murmur and flow of “1111,” softly showcasing her vocal arrangements as well as her warm playing, Exit Simulation has the air of a ghostly, entrancing late night performance, with songs like the full band jam of “Soma” (with guest keiyaA on both vocals and sax) and the buzzing “Lament” providing deep delights.
