Gold Afternoon Fix

The unexpected but welcome success of Starfish pretty well gave the Church the keys to the kingdom on the one hand, though on the other hand Arista perhaps wanted to make sure things stayed on track with Waddy Wachtel once again behind the boards. The result is a bit overstuffed – there’s no one track quite on the level of “Under the Milky Way” – but lead single “Metropolis” and the Marty Willson-Piper-sung “Russian Autumn Heart” are strong, while the opening and closing numbers, “Pharoah” and “Grind,” are both stirring and powerful.
