Happiness In Every Style

Released

This is a deft soul recreation album from 2015 that takes its cues directly from black American music circa 1969. Teaming up ten years after their breakthrough ‘Keep Reachin’ Up’ album, singer Nicole Willis and organ-led nostalgia-soul outfit The Soul Investigators provide a set of classic-sounding funk and R’n’B, ranging from faithful torch songs to dance floor jazz-soul, straight-up funk and flute-laden smooth soundtrack-esque instrumentals. Referencing the epic Detroit ‘Northern Soul’ sound as well as the rawer southern soul template, ‘Happiness In Every Style’ is a high-quality modern-retro soul collection.
