Herstory (A Compilation)

Released

Princess Tinymeat was the project of Haa-Lacka Binttii (aka Daniel Figgis) after being sacked from Irish post-punk/goth group the Virgin Prunes. They only released three singles across the mid-eighties, all compiled on Herstory, but what a catalogue of riches – in nine songs and forty minutes, Binttii and co. made weird with new wave (“Angels In Pain” is rockabilly at the Batcave), explored a doo-wop/noise hybrid (the extraordinary “A Bun In The Oven”, which sounds as though time itself is molten), and recorded the staggering “Sloblands”, a heat-haze of psychedelic drone that predates my bloody valentine’s loveless. Floating over everything is Binttii’s androgynous whimper – perfectly poised and deeply confusing.
