Nashville-based musician Rich Ruth approached his third solo album in the wake of a devastating tornado and period of turmoil. Listening to spiritual jazz touchstones Keith Jarrett’s The Köln Concert and John Coltrane’s Ascension, Ruth set out to create work of similar restorative transcendence. With I Survived It’s Over, that’s exactly what he delivered. Bringing together ambient and jazz (the spirit of both Alice Coltrane and John Hassell can be heard vibrating through these free-flowing compositions) it’s a soaring, dense and ultimately healing musical journey.
