Sigh

2001
Century Media

No real way to describe this other than absolutely batshit unpredictable bonkers but in the good way and not the Heath Ledger Joker “blowing up a hospital” sort of way. Sigh’s fifth album was an inspired melange of everything from thrash to circus music to psychedelic rock as interpreted through a Japanese black metal band that straight up did not care about genre limitations. In the same way that great anime shows like Cowboy Bebop remixed a bunch of Western tropes through a fresh lens, Imaginary Sonicscape gleefully tosses metal orthodoxy into the blender and comes up with a delicious, iron shard-filled smoothie.
