Released

After serving as a sideman on three Gary Burton collaborations (The New QuartetRing, and Dreams So Real), guitarist Mick Goodrick made this, his first album as leader. In Pas(s)ing consists entirely of his originals, save for the collectively improvised title cut, filtered through the mastery of multi-reed player John Surman, bassist Eddie Gomez, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. This ad hoc quartet creates a sound so lush that only ECM’s engineering could capture it. Titles like “In The Tavern Of Ruin” and “Summer Band Camp” hint at the variety you can expect to captivate your attention from start to finish.
