One of the few recordings Gilberto cut in the 1970’s, this eponymous LP is a masterpiece of minimalism with only Sonny Carr’s understated percussion complementing Gilberto’s soft vocals and dulcet guitar. Compared to the livelier bossa nova tunes of the ’50s and ’60s, many written or recorded by Gilberto himself, this album is far more contemplative and wistful in feel, an embodiment of a “less is more” aesthetic.
