La Forza Del Destino

A collection of singles rather than a dedicated artist album, Roman Flügel under his Soylent Green alias put this out in 2006, gathering together a decade of moody, murky-yet-precise, detailed, transporting house/techno releases.

Soylent Green productions sit at the more understated end of the dance music spectrum; this is house and techno without fanfare or euphoria, it’s music of whispers, hints and shadows, the tracks full of room and as much about what’s left unspoken as much as what is said. Which is not to say that this is uneventful or background music; there are extremes in absence and space, and within such a minimal frame, small audio statements become big, meaningful events. The range of moods and textures across these ten years’ worth of tracks feels united by their consistent quality, and demonstrates Flügel’s combination of production prowess and dancefloor savvy.
