Limón y Sal
Julieta Venegas followed up her breakthrough hit album Sí with 2006’s Limón y Sal, an even more polished and pop-friendly collection of songs produced once again with Cachorro López, with a little songwriting assistance from Coti Sorokin. While a few songs like “No Seré” and “Me Voy” nod to traditional Mexican music, with acoustic guitar and accordion, others, like “Canciones de Amor” and “Dulce Compañía,” have an almost country feel, but there are some thumping club tracks here, too — “Primer Día” features guest rapper Dante Spinetta of Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas, and “Eres Para Mi” brings in Chilean rapper Anita Tijoux. The album concludes with a cover of “Sin Documentos” by Argentine rock legend Andrés Calamaro. It won her a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album, and a Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, cementing her status as a major figure in Latin rock.
