Lookout Farm cover
Released

Saxophonist Dave Liebman made his ECM debut in 1974 with Lookout Farm, his first of only two albums for producer Manfred Eicher as leader (the other being 1975’s Drum Ode). The simpatico ensemble here includes pianist Richie Beirach and guitarist John Abercrombie, both of whom respond to Liebman’s tenor and soprano (and occasional flute) like light off a freshly washed car. Also remarkable are the contributions of bassist Frank Tusa (for his understated yet emotionally powerful undercurrents) and drummer Jeff Williams (for his incendiary playing in the final act).
