Mad Love
Anxious to return to his roots as an arena rock artist, Robi Draco Rosa knew he had to create a bombastic record that countered the slow burning, dark music he made in his early days as a solo artist after breaking out from the 80s Latin pop group Menudo. Released in 2004, Mad Love is Draco Rosas’s rock opus – a concept album detailing the rise of a rockstar and the loneliness and lost relationships that come with fame and money. Despite its subject matter, Mad Love is full of hard hitting jams that appeal to primal desires, like the rock bangers “Try Me” and “Heaven Can Wait.” The record also has surprising turns, like the Spanish guitar bohemian ballads “Crash Push” and “Cómo me acuerdo,” and the semi-acoustic lament “Solitary Man.” Mad Love is not only an entrancing record to hear, it showcases Draco Rosas’s raspy, blues vocals and opened the doors for the Puerto Rican artist to be known across Latin America and Europe.
