Music from Burden of Proof

Chuck Johnson’s elegant and pointed explorations on guitar and beyond took an intriguing turn with this formal soundtrack effort, done for a 2023 documentary series about a man’s exploration of a mysterious family tragedy. It served as his debut for Brian Eno’s All Saints label, with an air of suffused sorrow playing out from the title track in its combination of electronics and strings courtesy of Emily Packard, one of several guests throughout. The steel guitar-touched “Night of the Disappearance” and the beautiful melancholy of “The Crawlspace” are highlights.
