The first Plaid album makes a great case for the duo as songwriters and producers. Björk is here, as well as Leila and longtime collaborator Benet Walsh. The idea here, as in all their subsequent work, is to reach out into the world, not back into the computers. Not For Threes is one of IDM’s most open-minded and loose albums, more like a soundtrack than the furious expression of some singular vision.
