Nothing Can Stop Us

Released

Reggae’s greatest living falsettist was 67 years old when he released this collaborative album with London-based reggae/worldbeat band the Soothsayers, and if his voice was just a bit grainier than it had been during his 1970s heyday, it was no less sweet. Apart from a reprise of his classic “Jah Jah Me No Born Yah,” the program consists entirely of original tunes written by Campbell and the band, all in a faithful vintage roots-reggae style with rich, heavyweight production. Highlights include the great horn chart on “Conqueror” and the finger-snapping “Ode to Joy (Babylon Can’t Control I).”
