Pick a Dub
By the early 1990s, a figure like Keith Hudson was on the verge of fading away into obscurity. Roughly three years after Bob Marley’s untimely passing, Hudson himself succumbed to cancer, further shrouding his musical endeavors, such as cutting one of the earliest dub albums with 1974’s Pick a Dub. And like those initial dub documents, Hudson didn’t need multiple effects or extraneous sounds to make the music concuss. Emphasizing the taut interplay between the brother team of “Family Man” and Carlton Barrett (who also powered the early Wailers albums) and Soul Syndicate, Hudson’s sound was tough, lean, and pliant.
