Re:Release

Re:Release is an expansion of Juggaknots’ vinyl-only Clear Blue Skies EP from sibling duo producer Buddy Slim and rapper Breeze Brewin. These songs contain some of the most vivid and impressionistic writing in the hip-hop canon and Breeze is a masterful rhyme writer and deliverer who does not get nearly enough credit for his contributions to the advancement of the art of rapping. The standout here is “Clear Blue Skies,” an exemplary storytelling song that is moving in form and dispiriting in subject matter. There is a subtlety to Breeze’s delivery, he’s not a boisterous as some of his contemporaries, and it’s no surprise that he later launched a career as an educator, because something new can be learned about the art of rhyming on every listen to his engaging and understated flows.
