Bandulu have always been a band apart from any standard club music movements — bringing rave MCing into serious techno clubs and doom and dread into the Balearic world — and this album encapsulates it. It’s dub techno, but it’s a million miles from the elegant poise of Basic Channel. This has its reggae, electro and rave roots in the gritty, grotty streets of London and it shows. Basic Channel’s tones are in there, as are heavy doses of Jeff Mills and The Advent, but the reggae and dancehall constantly pushes its way to the front, not as an incorporated flavour but as a lead element, reminding you that you’re on a night ride through a British city….
