Rruga cover
Released

ECM is known for consistently redefining the piano trio, and Swiss pianist Colin Vallon is a shining example in that regard. Drawing inspiration from the folk music of the Caucasus, Rruga is the result of six years of preparation, interaction, and refinement—and it shows. In bassist Patrice Moret and drummer Samuel Rohrer, he has found a family bond. Most of the material comes from within the band. Whereas Vallon’s writing is personal and reflective, Moret’s is more future-leaning and Rohrer’s more geometric. The album ends with a collective improvisation on “Shope Shope” by 20th-century Bulgarian composer Stefan Mutafchiev.
