Inspired in equal parts by krautrock, early prog rock, and electronic music, Montecarlo 88 featured members of Mexican underground bands Childs, Planetas Muertos, and Cholula Dans Division. “Infinitesimal Colour Gradations” starts as a psych ballad before morphing into a new wave raver, while a motorik beat mangles “Ripley”’s garage rock-inspired riff into submission and “Globos de aire caliente” shapes vintage electronics into a crooked groove. Finally, “Amor supremo” takes Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme” into Moroder territory.
