Send and Return

Released

Essex duo Ultramarine’s mix of post club electronica, 70s folk and the more whimsical psychedelia of the Canterbury scene pretty much invented the idea of ‘pastoral techno’ in the early 90s. Ian Cooper and Paul Hammond might possibly tire of the tag three decades on but as their eight albums shows, it’s still very much their M.O.. Send and Return was recorded on a barge moored in the Blackwater Estuary and the record’s organic undulations and twilight cascades of fluttering woodwind beautifully evoke an atmosphere of tides and wildlife gently moving across the mudflats. All that’s missing is a birdwatchers’ guide and a pair of wellies.
