Spark Like Living Mothers
Simon Goff might not be a household name quite yet, but once you know him you’ll see his name pop up in all sorts of places. He’s composed TV ad film scores, worked with contemporary dance productions, and made music with Swans and UK 2000s pop sensation Katie Melua. His first solo album, Vale, was an epic yet deeply personal tribute to the rugged moors of North Yorkshire which navigated the relationship between classical music, organic sounds, and technology. On Spark Like Living Mothers he explores this theme even further, building on fragments of sound, looping and layering them with electronics and big, cinematic orchestrations. Even the lyrics lie at the intersection of creativity and technology, having been “written” by an AI system developed by Sam Potter of none other than UK dance-punk band Late of the Pier — talk about unexpected partnerships!
