Clouds

Italian-Ivorian Ehua’s EP for Martyn’s 3024 is inspired by clouds, or better by the “paradoxical nature of these mood-shifting objects, suspended in space.” But something about it is more reminiscent of wading through the lush undergrowth of a tropical forest — the croaking sounds, the rich, natural soundscapes, the hazy synths that sound like wind blowing through foliage and bird-like calls on “Vola.” These mellow layers are the backdrop to Ehua’s mighty workouts, from the dark tech-house of “Plume” to the prowling breakbeats of “Leggera,” all bolstered by a thick, surging bass. The addition of the Duduk and the recorder give this clubbing beast a nice, organic touch.
