The Blue Notebooks

The album that launched a thousand dance pieces, it’s Richter making his Michael Nyman phrases and getting Tilda Swinton to recite Kafka deep cuts. This works because Richter thinks like a pop musician and keeps his pretty little arpeggios to the point, so the moody gus piano vibes don’t take up more room than they merit. The bits with actual church organ are my favorite, and I actually prefer Richter in the big space, much as piano is his thing.
