The Open Boat

Released

The Open Boat concluded Fofana’s trilogy of 2022 releases with further reflections on the Black diaspora, not as a final statement so much as a consideration of the continuing process, accentuated by liner notes quoting extensively from Kamau Braithwaite. Instead of the model of the first two in the trilogy, The Open Boat consists of four tracks of generally equal length, where murmuring electronic ambience meets other approaches, such as the drum solo on “Prelude (Sea Green Sea/Sidewalk of Clouds)” or the bubbling pulses of “The Unity is Submarine.”
