The Slip

Released

Released just a few months after Ghosts I-IV, The Slip was a more familiar sounding Nine Inch Nails album, though in many real ways it was almost a summation of the band’s career until then, not surprising given Trent Reznor’s plan at that time to put the band name to rest. “Discipline” had all the wiry kick and punch of his best pop-oriented singles — or at least pop-adjacent — while everything from more moody instrumentals not far removed from the Ghosts vein and other explosive collages and sonic slams further underscored the sense of being a survey of NIN until that point in time.
