The Wild Magnolias
The New Orleans Project , The Wild Magnolias
1974
Polydor
Six tracks of deep New Orleans funk from Mardi Gras Indian tribe the Wild Magnolias in tandem with a band led by New Orleans funk architect Willie Tee who also arranged and co-wrote the album. The ‘Indian Masking’ Magnolias provide the vocals and a polyrhythmic layer of tambourines, shakers, tom-toms, bottles and tin cans while Tee marshals a finely-tuned wall of funk with wah wah guitars, organ, clavinet, congas, bongos and occasional delay FX. Serious psychedelic swamp-funk.
