Todd Rundgren’s Utopia

Released

Talk about prog rock excess – only two sides but a full hour long, Todd Rundgren’s initial excursion into the world of weird time signatures once more showed that the musician/producer wasn’t interested in half measures (except in the musical sense). How many other acts had three keyboardists? It’s a wild ride, though, and even if it takes some wrong turns – look, you can’t expect a 30 minute opus called “The Ikon” to stay focused the entire time – Rundgren’s lighthearted approach prevents the songs from getting bogged down in portentousness. The players even sound like they’re having fun!
