For their second full album, 2022’s Twin Plagues, North Carolina’s Wednesday continued to easily demonstrate that their version of a country/indie/shoegaze approach to music was an inspiring one. The opening title track’s woozy grind contrasted and accentuated the catch in Karly Hartzman’s clear voice, and from there the album draws on its late 20th century inspirations well, a mix of close focus and feedback sprawl (to very My Bloody Valentine like effect on “One More Last One”) plus brilliant song titles like “The Burned Down Dairy Queen.”
