On her second solo album, pianist Vikki Jackman calls on the support of friends Andrew Chalk, and Daisuke and Naoko Suzuki – the line-up of Ghosts On Water, basically – to help shade in these gorgeous miniatures for piano. There’s a deft sense for timing and placement of notes here, with Jackman’s playing suggesting a hallucination of ‘Satie does Feldman’, or perhaps vice versa. When denuded, the music here is becalmed; when Chalk and the Suzukis join in, they mottle the surface of the recording tape with spectral field recordings, quiet glitchy electronics, and dewdrop webs of reverb. It’s prepossessingly lovely.
