Wild Pitch: The Story

Released

Chicago demigod DJ Pierre will always be remembered first as the co-inventor of acid house with Phuture – but his early-mid-90s “wild pitch” sound is just as beloved of house heads worldwide. At a time when mass adoption of house music was leading to bigger, brasher sounds, he matched the commercial producers for instant sonic impact but – crucially – didn’t give into the crass dynamics of build-and-release, rather creating long tracks that layered on intensity relentlessly, sending crowds into frenzies. His work in the style is scattered across labels and remixes for others, but this 2017 album revisiting classics like his own era-defining “Generate Power” and Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” and giving new twists on the sound is as good an introduction as you could want.
