rain
What do you do when an artist wants you to forget their work, but it’s just too important to you? Koronba was pretty minor in the grand scheme of things, but their work reached many at an opportune time to leave an impact. They created a fangame based off the RPG Maker classic Yume Nikki called LcdDem (which, despite never being finished, was great), made a bunch of off-kilter visual art, and composed some electronic music. Around 2016, koronba deleted their online presence—including their Bandcamp pages—imploring fans to forget about their art. Naturally, this caused plenty of people to adamantly keep everything archived. A particular favorite of the koronba faithful is rain, a collection of miniature digital sketches. Each track is titled after a hex code that corresponds with a color on the album cover, and there’s a sense that the music aims to crystallize the feeling of ambiguous hues and shapes. There’s a mix of worry, nostalgia, and wistfulness that keeps me coming back to the music—but it’s also just the simple fact that I still love it.
