Acid Dub Studies
Released
It’s an idea so simple, so fundamental, this album almost feels as if it was dug up from the ground rather than made. Of COURSE two genres reliant on minimalism, melodic basslines, and the space created by drum processing are compatible. Mind you, it was never guaranteed the fusion would be quite this good — but Om Unit, a producer who has been dedicated to understated sonic richness whether he makes drum’n’bass, cinematic downtempo or John Carpenter-ish electropop was the man for the job. It’s dreamy, murky digital dub reggae, but with the basslines and other melodies played on the ever-undulating TB-303 of acid house. That’s it. It works, and it’s wonderful.
