Another Perfect Day

Released

Motörhead’s one outing with former Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson was an ill-fated venture – critically, commercially, and band-chemistry-wise. Even if he didn’t enjoy making it, however, Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister loved the results in hindsight, citing it as one of his personal favorites. It’s certainly a unique entry in their discography. Robertson brought more virtuosity to the fretwork than Kilmister and his (certainly capable) cohorts usually attempted. Producer Tony Platt gave ambitious songs like “Shine,” “I Got Mine,” and “Dancing on Your Grave” unexpected polish, although Lemmy’s usual acidic take on humanity melts holes in the sheen. Not quite perfect, but almost to the level of their first few classics and a damn sight better than they’d manage for the rest of the decade.
