Bleep Mix #200
Sometimes a mix lives in the memory as something other than it is. This one—even after revisiting it twice the week before another play locked it down for me—stayed with me as a demonstration of techno as the new. In fact, it’s a lot of vintage cuts—if anything, a demonstration of techno as a mainstay. In the end, both hearings seem right: the tonalities slip around like the hi-hats do, the beats stay solid while the machines go doolally. So it’s always “new,” even when Broom—one of UK techno’s long-time prime movers—is just re-editing UR’s “Jupiter Jazz” yet again.
