Live at the Gallery, October 1976

A New York disco OG and a pioneer of the smooth mixing style that is now standard among dance DJs, Siano didn’t always segue every track into the next. Instead — as he demonstrated at his amazing sixtieth birthday party at Coney Island’s Eldorado Auto Skooter on March 21 — Siano’s sets play out in shorter strings (three songs here, four there) that keep the mood shifting. This pair of amazing vintage sets nicely demonstrates that tendency in real time, and while some of his segues might be a little rough for Ableton-enabled ears, keep your ears perked on Part 1 for the bow-down moment when he drops the Supremes’ “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” for one bar. (You can hear the equally redoubtable part two here.)
