Having already established himself as a crucial figure within the Mexican extreme metal underground with his death metal band Disgorge, Antimo Bounanno made another undeniable mark with Hacavitz, and their fourth album is perhaps the most brilliant moment in their discography. While previous albums mixed and matched different influences, Darkness Beyond submerges itself further into the grim atmospherics of black metal with just a hint of doomy death metal that makes tracks like “Terra Nihil,” “De Humo Negro y Cenizas,” and the title track brutal slabs of negative energy.
