Keeley Forsyth had steadily built up an TV and movie acting profile in her native UK over many years prior to 2020’s Debris but it was her concurrent pursuit of performance art and meeting and working with experimental musicians which led to that remarkable debut. Informed by then-recent struggles with health and exhaustion, Debris has a shadowy intensity, with Forsyth’s on-the-edge-of-mournful vocals centered in her understated, focused art-song melodies, songs like “Look to Yourself” feeling somewhere between old folk music and a haunted, unsure future.
