With their third album Gene Loves Jezebel achieved what in American eyes in particular would be their classic form, thanks in part to the inclusion of Chelsea/Generation X guitarist James Stevenson, who had joined the band for the Immigrant tour and had a way around both flash and memorable riffs. Jay and Michael Aston’s singing is their most approachable yet, showcasing an easy knack for memorable choruses throughout, and they scored big time with their signature song “Desire,” with its addictive “Koo-koo!” hook. Other songs like “Heartache” and “Sweetest Thing” hit well in turn.
