Ellipse cover
Released

Famous for a few famous breakbeats, Ellipse is a deep well of spiritual jazz made from surprisingly few instruments: drums, piano, percussion, and flutes. A big chunk of this is percussion, though, and it is truly wild how the landscape changes when you subtract saxophones and electric guitars. The freakiness here cannot wail—it must bubble, and it does.
