Straddling the lines between the many different genres that have heavy riffs at the core of their identities, Morelia, Mexico’s Akûma makes its combination of stoner grooves, black metal blastbeats, and atmospheric post rock work seamlessly. Tracks like “Ingolstadt” come down like a storm, while others like “Olas de Sangre” crawl to a crushing beat, with instrumentals like “Amongst The Vessels” providing brief changes of pace before the distortion is cranked up again.
