Ghosts On Water
Released
A lovely, brief follow-up to their debut album, 2005’s Senshu, on this self-titled effort, the Ghosts On Water trio of Andrew Chalk, Daisuke Suzuki and Naoko Suzuki discover what they can do when working in miniature – gone are the lengthy explorations of its predecessor. The terrain they cover here is surprisingly broad: there’s some wandering, bell-like kantele; eerie, displaced vocals; shapeless, amorphous smears of unidentifiable texture; and levitating, breathy flutes. The highlight, though, is the Harold Budd-esque reverie of “In October Skies”, where Chalk’s electric piano sits, glowing, atop vaporous electronics.
