Hot Space

If 1982’s Hot Space had been better received by fans and charts, it would have been interesting to see if Queen had continued to explore the sheer range that they had shown both ability and success with. As it is – the addition of their famed duet with David Bowie “Under Pressure” slightly aside – Hot Space is the extreme point of the group’s exploration of early 80s dance, funk and synth-pop sounds, easily their most minimally arranged album but all the more truly fascinating for it, as Freddie Mercury’s murmurously lustful “Body Language” made plenty clear.
