Live... In the Heart of the City
Released
Whitesnake are best known for using Tawny Kitaen to wax the hood of David Coverdale’s Corvette in the video for the gloppified redo of their own “Here I Go Again” seven years hence. In 1980 they were still a solid heavy blues rock outfit mostly intended to showcase former Deep Purple frontman Coverdale’s Robert Plant-alike yelping. This live document presents them at their most enjoyable, the band loose and lethal and Coverdale proving that his majestic mane wasn’t the only thing that made him a star on stage. “Walking in the Shadow of the Blues” strides the most confidently. If you’re looking for 70s excess at its finest, however, “Love Hunter” lets each member take turns stalking their prey over the course of 11 exhilarating minutes.
