If all the Primitives’ full debut album had to offer was “Crash,” it would almost be enough – gaining a slew of understandable but forced comparisons to Blondie, “Crash” was the Primitives making the major label signing work for them perfectly, a note-perfect example of 60s pop and garage filtered through the 80s underground turned into a hit in its own right. But Lovely had plenty going for it, with some sharp rerecordings of earlier material like “Thru the Flowers” and “Shadow” plus engaging newer numbers like “I’ll Stick With You” and “Dreamwalk Baby.”
