Napoli Segreta Vol. 1

With a long history as a busy port city, and the presence of thousands of US soldiers stationed at a large NATO base, Naples became the place where the melodic traditions of southern Italy met the sounds of American disco and funk between the 1970s and 1980s. A new sound that merged Neapolitan dialect and melodies with funky basslines and disco rhythms emerged, but failed to ever take off outside the rowdy clubs down by the port or the local pirate radios. The hoards of 45s ended up on dusty shelves, until Neapolitan DJs and collectors Lorenzo Sannino and Gianpaolo Della Noce, with the help of fellow diggers and friends, decided to found “Napoli Segreta” (Secret Naples) and uncover this moment in Naples’ history.
