New Zealand pianist Mick Nock joins forces with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Jon Christensen in this marvelous ECM recording from 1981. Over the course of five expansive originals, he unleashes a controlled flood of impressions, not least of all throughout the 16-minute “Forgotten Love” that opens the set. “Land Of The Long White Cloud” is another must-hear for its cinematic solemnity. “Doors” finishes with some ecstatic interplay, closing out (if not also opening us to) a hidden gem in the label’s massive back catalog.
