Output cover
Released

Despite seeing Output more often spoken of in the same breath as “album cover” than “killer album,” I vote for the latter as a more fruitful path to appreciating its idiosyncrasies. Pianist Wolfgang Dauner is better known as the founder of the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble, but this 1970 free-for-all with bassist Eberhard Weber (also on cello and guitar) and drummer Fred Braceful (on percussion) is humorous, brilliant, and hypermodern. “Nothing To Declare” is the album’s poker face. Featuring Dauner’s ebullient modulator, it jostles for attention between the cryptic “Mudations” and “Brazing The High Sky Full,” among others. Extradimensional!
